Elia has not always been a faithful soldier of the Empire. He is alert, sometimes clear-headed, but he is not as lethal as he should be. That’s because the school is a foxhole. Muddy, ruthless, endless. It’s not easy to keep up with the students, “uncertain hormonal fluctuations”, pink Bactrim sons, post-feminist antibiotic, who point the finger at you, tits pointed like shoes, and they are noisy, and aren’t used to listen; they don’t care about what you say, but how you feel, what is your bodily posture, if you express your feelings, in other words if you can create the right atmosphere; they want to transform you in a concepts DJ.
And then if a substitute teacher is discovered dead, sucked into the hood of the chemistry laboratory, the headteacher host clandestine Chinese in the basement, the director confides in a blow up doll in room 47 of Sorriso hotel…
The entire editorial staff of Radio Precari wants to know the truth about the mysterious death of their colleague, but Elia is distracted, beauty has caught him suddendly, Emma is a black splinter, the best fifteen minutes in a dark night.
Insanity teaching: when school is a delirium.
Fulvio Ervas was born in the Venetian inland on 23rd July 1955, without knowing that Albert Einstein had died a few months before. When he realizes that, he enrolls in a high school with the presumption of building a scientific culture of his own. Inexplicably attracted by all the animals apart from men, he graduates in Agriculture, with an odd thesis on “Burlina cow safeguard”. He teaches Natural Science in public education, and that’s the main topic of Follia docente, but other stories pester him. On trains, in the kitchen-garden, events and characters crowd into his mind, and he can’t rest until they feel safe jotted down on pages. Together with his sister Luisa, he has published La lotteria (Premio Calvino 2001) and Succulente. Commesse di Treviso has been his first novel with Inspector Stucky as the main character and it has been followed by Pinguini arrosto, Buffalo Bill a Venezia, Finché c’è prosecco c’è speranza and L’amore è idrosolubile.
Se ti abbraccio non aver paura has been released in April 2012 and is still in the top ten of the bestseller list. Today Fulvio teaches science in a high school and lives in Treviso countryside with his family and a team of pets.
